Silicon republic: MEP tells record labels to leave illegal downloaders alone. Just days after it announced a $17 million quarterely loss, Warner is set to quit free music streaming. Warner chief executive Edgar Bronfman Jr seemed dismissive of a premium price strategy, “The get all your music you want for free, and then maybe with a few bells and whistles we can move you to a premium price strategy, is not the kind of approach to business that we will be supporting in the future.” Yet at the same time he announced that Warner will be doing their own premium priced streaming service.
Somehow, without the draw of free music to lure people in, he still thinks his new service could be taken up by “hundreds of millions if not billions of people, most of whom are not today either buyers or certainly heavy buyers of music.” iTunes music: Higher prices result in slower sales growth.
